Request your data, step by step
- Open User SettingsIn the Discord desktop or web app, click the gear icon next to your username at the bottom left. On mobile, tap your profile picture and then the settings gear.
- Go to Data & PrivacyOpen Data & Privacy (older versions called this section Privacy & Safety).
- Find Request all of my dataScroll down to the section about requesting your data.

- Confirm the requestSelect Request Data and confirm. Discord shows that your request is being processed.
- Wait for the emailDiscord emails a download link to the address on your account when the package is ready. Check spam folders too.
- Download the ZIPUse the link in the email to download the package. Links are only valid for a limited time, so download it soon.
How long it takes, and how often you can ask
Discord says preparing a data package can take a while, and for accounts with long histories it may take days or longer. You cannot speed it up, and making repeated requests does not help; Discord limits how often you can request a new package.
Make sure you can receive email at the address on your account before requesting. If you no longer have access to that inbox, update your email in account settings first.
What is inside the package
The package is a ZIP with folders for different kinds of data. The exact structure has changed over the years, but you will typically see:
| Folder | Contents |
|---|---|
| Account | Profile details, settings and connections |
| Messages | Your messages, one folder per channel or DM, plus an index that maps channel IDs to names |
| Servers | Servers you belong to and related information |
| Activity | Usage and analytics data recorded by Discord |
Inside each message folder there is usually a small file describing the channel and a messages file with your messages and timestamps. Newer packages use messages.json; older ones used messages.csv.
The package contains messages you sent. Other people’s messages in the same channels are not included, because they belong to those users’ accounts.
What you can do with it
- Keep an archive of your own messages before leaving a server or closing an account.
- Review your data to understand what Discord stores about your activity.
- Build a clone of yourself. Because it is a large, clean sample of your own writing, a Discord package is an excellent source for learning your personal style.
Keep the package secure
The package contains private DMs and account details. Store it on a device you control, do not share the download link, and delete extra copies once you have what you need. Never send the package to someone who asks for it in a DM; Discord staff will not request it.
Using a Discord package with Memory Clone
Memory Clone imports Discord data packages on your Windows PC and reads your messages from the JSON or CSV files. Since the package holds your own writing, it is most useful for a clone of yourself, combined with WhatsApp, Messenger or Instagram exports that show both sides of conversations. Frequently asked questions
Does the Discord data package include DMs?
It includes the direct messages you sent, organised by conversation. It does not include the other person’s messages.
How long does a Discord data request take?
It varies with account size. Discord prepares it in the background and emails you when it is ready, which can take days.
Can I download one server’s messages only?
The data package covers your account. You can open just the channel folders you need once it arrives.
Does requesting my data notify servers or friends?
No. Requesting your own data package is private to your account.
Why are some messages missing?
Messages you deleted are generally not included, and the package only contains messages from your own account.
