用你的聊天记录打造 AI

Turn WhatsApp Chats into an AI Chatbot

WhatsApp is where many people have their longest, most personal conversations. Those exports are an excellent source for a personal AI, as long as they are handled carefully. Here is how the process works from the export file to a chatbot you can talk to.

快速解答

To turn WhatsApp chats into an AI chatbot, export each conversation from WhatsApp as a TXT or ZIP file, then import the exports into a tool that parses the messages, identifies who said what and learns that person’s style. Memory Clone does this locally on Windows and keeps each relationship’s tone and memories separate.

What a WhatsApp export contains

WhatsApp does not offer a single “download all chats” file. Instead, you export one conversation at a time. Each export is a plain-text transcript where every line has a date, time, sender name and message. On iPhone the export arrives as a ZIP containing a file usually named _chat.txt; on Android it is typically a TXT file, or a ZIP when you include media.

The exact layout depends on the phone’s language and region settings: dates may be day-first or month-first, times may use 12- or 24-hour clocks, and names can be in any alphabet. An importer built only for US English exports will misread many international files, so this matters if you or the person you are cloning lives outside the US.

Exports also contain system lines such as encryption notices, placeholders where media was left out, deleted messages and edits. These need to be recognised as metadata rather than as things the person said.

From export to chatbot, step by step

  1. Export the most meaningful chatsStart with long one-to-one conversations. Our WhatsApp export guide has current Android and iPhone steps. “Without media” is usually enough, because the AI learns from text.
  2. Move the files to your PCSave the exports to a folder on your Windows computer, for example by sending them to yourself or using cloud storage you control. Keep ZIP files as they are.
  3. Create a clone in Memory CloneChoose whether it represents you, another living person who has given permission, or someone who has died.
  4. Import the WhatsApp filesAdd the TXT or ZIP files. The importer reads the locale-specific dates and names and builds a local memory index on your PC.
  5. Confirm the peopleTell the app which sender is the person being cloned and link each chat to the right contact. If the same person appears in WhatsApp and Messenger under different names, link them to one contact.
  6. Enable cloud processing and start chattingSwitch on cloud processing for the clone in Clone Settings, choose who you are in the conversation, and send a first message.

Why relationship context changes everything

A WhatsApp history with your best friend and one with your landlord show two very different people, even if the same person wrote both. A chatbot that blends every chat into one profile ends up sounding like neither.

Memory Clone stores the active conversation partner per chat thread. When you talk to the clone as a particular contact, it uses the tone, nicknames, emoji habits and memories from that relationship. Facts learned in one relationship are not revealed to someone who would not know them, which protects privacy inside the clone as well as outside it.

Group chats can add useful background, but one-to-one chats give the clearest signal of how someone speaks to a specific person.

Privacy: what happens to the export

  • The original WhatsApp files stay on your computer, along with the memory index built from them.
  • Nothing is sent to a cloud AI until you enable cloud processing for that clone. Then, only the excerpts needed for a reply are sent through the Memory Clone server to the AI provider.
  • Memory Clone does not use your chats to train AI models.
  • Your chats include the other person’s messages too. Use the result privately and see the Acceptable Use Policy for permission rules.

Do-it-yourself alternatives and their limits

Technically minded people sometimes paste a WhatsApp export into a general chatbot or fine-tune a model themselves. Both approaches work up to a point, with trade-offs:

ApproachStrengthsLimits
Paste into a general chatbotQuick, no setupOnly a small part of the chat fits; whole chat sent to a third party; style drifts back to default
Fine-tune your own modelFull controlNeeds technical skill and compute; no relationship boundaries or memory search by default
Purpose-built local-first appHandles parsing, contacts, memory search and per-relationship stylePaid; still an AI simulation with occasional errors

Getting better results

  • Export several chats, not just one, and include older conversations as well as recent ones.
  • Add short notes about facts the chats assume but never state, such as family relationships or where someone worked.
  • If a chat was mostly logistics (“on my way”), it adds little style signal; prioritise conversations with real back-and-forth.
  • Test replies against real messages and look at tone and length first, details second.

Frequently asked questions

Can I export all my WhatsApp chats at once?

Not with WhatsApp’s built-in export, which works one chat at a time. Export the conversations that matter most.

Does it work with WhatsApp exports in other languages?

Yes. Memory Clone is designed for exports from phones set to many languages and regions, including different date formats and non-Latin alphabets.

Do I need to include media?

No. The AI learns from text, so exporting without media is faster and produces smaller files.

Will the chatbot message my contacts on WhatsApp?

No. The clone lives inside the Memory Clone app. It does not connect to your WhatsApp account or send messages to anyone.

Is a WhatsApp chatbot the same person?

No. It is an AI simulation that imitates style and recalls details from the chats. It can be wrong and should always be treated as AI.

App menus change over time, so labels on your device may differ slightly. Memory Clone creates an AI simulation from the material you provide; it is not the person.

用你自己的消息试试看

Memory Clone 是一款 Windows 应用。你导入的聊天记录和记忆索引都保存在你的电脑上,只有在你为某个克隆开启云端处理后,才会开始生成云端回复。你必须年满 18 周岁。
