Quick answer

Nobody can upload a mind or live forever through AI today. What exists are AI simulations built from a person’s messages, recordings or stories, plus archives and memorial services. They can preserve how someone wrote or spoke, but they are not the person and have no consciousness.

Where Memory Clone stands. Memory Clone is a Windows app in alpha that builds a private AI simulation from chats you export yourself (WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Discord) and notes. It does not offer digital immortality or mind uploading, and voice, photos and video are only on its roadmap. We wrote these articles to explain the wider field honestly, including other approaches and their risks.

How we write these articles

  • We check names, dates and claims against primary sources such as papers, patents, official help pages and original reporting, and link them at the end of each article.
  • We describe films and series briefly in our own words and avoid spoilers where we can. We do not use film stills.
  • We say clearly what is speculation, and we never present an AI simulation as the real person.
  • Articles about grief include wellbeing information. If you are struggling, our wellbeing guidance lists free helplines.

Try it with your own messages

Memory Clone is a Windows app. Your imported chats and the memory index stay on your PC, and cloud replies only start after you switch on cloud processing for a clone. You must be 18 or older.
